Dream on track: Wendy Alsemgeest with her Certificate III in Children's Services

The dream of Centacare Employment Group client Wendy Alsemgeest to lead a more productive and independent life is on track following her completion of studies in children's services.

A year ago the Toowong office of Centacare Employment Group found Wendy work as a part-time assistant at Montessori Child Care, Taringa, looking after children aged 18 months to six years.

Previously she had been long-term unemployed following a diagnosis of mental illness some years earlier.

The child care position was a long-held dream for Wendy and it wasn't long before she was enquiring about further study opportunities following completion of a Senior First Aid Certificate.

With specialised help from Centacare Employment Group, Bright Futures Training College, Clontarf, and Montessori Child Care she was supported to enrol in a Certificate III in Children's Services.

The college adapted the course to enable Wendy to fully understand the syllabus and assisted her to complete the stringent requirements of the course.

Centacare Employment Group consultant Graham Pukallus says his client is very proud of achieving another milestone in her career and is already considering further study options.

Centacare Employment Group also supports Wendy in a part-time stock presentation position at Coles Indooroopilly.
