Shiloh (HIV/AIDS Support)

A place for listening - SHILOH is the name of the place where Samuel hears God calling him to be a leader of the people in 1 Samuel 3. In the middle of the night he listens. SHILOH, pronounced SHY-LOW, is a 'place of listening'. Listening, non-judgemental companionship in a confidential setting is the hallmark of SHILOH.

Our focus is the care and support of people affected by or involved with HIV/AIDS. SHILOH is based on a 'friendship' model of support. It is not a counselling centre or a crisis, drop-in refuge. In the confidential setting of a small suburban home, people are free to talk or not, to cry, pray, rest or just have a chat over a cuppa.

Shiloh has visited 70% of Catholic secondary schools in Brisbane, offering insight into HIV/AIDS issues. We welcome the opportunity to speak as the need for continuing education is evident to us especially for our teenagers.

Objectives

  • To provide a welcoming environment and a caring supportive community for all people involved in HIV/AIDS.
  • To provide listening companionship and non-judgemental support as people address their needs in a place where confidentiality and respect for the dignity of each person is assured.
  • To provide a network of community support and encouragement for those involved in HIV/AIDS.
  • To promote awareness in the general community of the needs of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • To raise such funds as are necessary to carry out these objectives.
