When Mum and Dad Talk
A book about parents separating for children, parents and professionals.
“When Mum and Dad Talk” gives voice to a simple naming of the complex mix of emotions that children can experience while parents are working through their issues with one another following relationship breakdown. Congratulations to Tess Rowley and Rhiannon McLay, for once again creating a wonderfully engaging child-focussed resource that provides perspective on the changes to family dynamics that relationship breakdown and ultimately separation can have.
Centacare Brisbane hopes that the parents who are navigating the difficult times of family separation will read this book and see the wisdom in the invitation to work on their communication with one another as parents; while also gaining some insight into how their behaviour might be affecting their children. We speak for many child-focussed professionals in saying that we also hope that the children of these families will have the benefit of reading this and know that they are not alone in feeling the way they do - and that things can change in their families.
Centacare Brisbane’s Family Services are proud to offer this little gem to parents and professionals and we hope that it will decorate the waiting rooms of many Family Relationship Centres and family services as well as becoming a high quality resource for parents and libraries across the country. This delightful little book has an important message to spread in encouraging separated parents to take steps to talk together about the needs of their children. Thank you Tess and Rhiannon!
Centacare Brisbane would also like to thank the Australian Attorney General’s Department and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs for their support of this initiative.

The 'I Can' Kids Book and Poster
A 32 page full colour book and a large full colour glossy wall poster suitable for primary school age children.
This wonderful book for younger children takes the mystery out of making friends and speaking out in a classroom situation.
Having the confidence to make friends and speak out is an essential resilience building and emotional intelligence skill.
The book gives children ideas on how they can become better equipped to handle shyness and lack of confidence. The poster echoes the words of the book through a poem, the ‘I Can” Kids and has a colourful border of the characters portrayed in the book.
The book and poster are excellent resources for libraries, teachers, parents, friends and counsellors. Our dream is for every child to be able to speak out and say, “I can enjoy school, I can make friends” Published by Centacare Catholic Family and Community Services together with Xstrata Community Partnership Program.
